Santander Consumer Usa - I am a victim of predatory lending

I purchased a 2013 Nissan Altima in 2017. The cost of the car was $16, 251.

The APR was 27.67%. The finance charge was $17,596.92.

The total cost for this 2013 Nissan Altima was $33,883.09

I paid on this car for 5 years, with payments totaling $20,538.00 at $470.00 a month and only $518.00 went to the principal.

Its been a struggle to pay this car off. Once I learned about the Predatory Lending lawsuit in 2022. I contacted Santandar because I believed I was a victim of there scandal.

They told me I didnt qualify, but never explained why. When all the facts are relevant.

I wrote a complaint to Santandar, CFPB and the Attorney General in California where I lived and I was told the case has been closed.

Santandar charged off the loan with a balance of $17,689.00 as of October of 2022.

I reached out to a few lawyers who never contacted me to get a deficiency waiver, and the title to the car, which was one of the settlement agreements and received no luck.

As of this week, Santandar repossessed my vehicle.

I have paid more than the cost of the vehicle.

I am a victim of there scandal. I need help on how to get my car back with the title or be compensated

Good!!! Keep looking.!!

Since you don’t have anything better else to do… Hope your day is *** !! And let’s see your face…

Funny, Funny, Funny and you haven't the slightest clue of what you're talking about! All car loans are on an amortization schedule where interest is paid first!

Secondly, if you don't like high APR then YOU should have been paying your bills ON time so that you would QUALIFY for low APR bank financing.

Both of these matters are as obvious as the rising sun. Why not write back and entertain us some more with your comedy!

Let me address this clown that’s entertaining my comedy. First of all, I am fully aware of amortization, I just don’t think it was fair to charge $17K to finance 16k, But I took what I could at the time.

I have bought and paid for quite a few cars that were financed.. Secondly, no matter what situation I was in at that time is irrelevant to you and your opinion. The facts that Santander abused consumers rights and therefore was sued for $550 million for predatory lending, and is currently being sued for other reasons as well demonstrates that your opinion is worthless, and it was obvious that Santander was unethical. Thirdly I was paying my bills that’s why they got $20k in payments.

I wasn’t aware of the lawsuit at the time after paying over $20k and the settlement was already closed, So it was too late for me to be included cause at the time I was current. Once I found out about the lawsuit, I definitely wasn’t about to continue to pay another $17K for a 2013 Nissan Altima.

Since I made my complaint, on several platforms, Legal representation has reached out to me. So you can continue laughing at this comedy and do your research on Santander’s unethical tactics, then you can shut TF up.

If it's so, so unfair then YOU shouldn't have GIVEN YOURSELF a garbage credit history by YOU not paying YOUR bills on time!

Thank you, I can’t believe some people can be so ignorant… Most of the comments sound like a POS employee that works there… One day, the people who’s commenting talking some BS. Will have a down fall…

Guest

You loan was interest first. No lawyer will take your case, because you do not have one.

You agreed to the interest rate and loan terms. It was so high because of your *** credit.

Guest
reply icon Replying to comment of Guest-2485590

One thing you are right about is $518.00 went to interest, but where you are wrong is Lawyers did take the case for several consumers. Santandar was sued for predatory lending and had to pay $550 million and also had to give defiency waivers to consumers who had past due balances.

I wasn’t included because I was current on my payments. Once I found out about the lawsuit after paying over $20k and I still owed a balance of $17k for a 2013 Nissan Altima. That’s where they had me *** Up.

Secondly, those same people who signed the “CONTRACT” knowingly did not change the fact Santandar violated consumer right, and that’s why they had to pay out $550 million and still have to pay out on another lawsuit for being unethical. So your facts is irrelevant and uneducated to comment on my post Do your research before commenting on something you think you know something about.

No communication.

I have sent emails to the estate department trying to obtain a title release for my grand mothers car which passed away in 2020 and cannot get a response from anyone or reach anyone on the phone.

Original review updated Apr 22, 2024

This company needs to hire competent individuals or training needs to be priority. I bought my vehicle in December 2023.

There were a circumstance that the vehicle will need to be registered in only one person name and could not be in both buyer's name. Santander was asked to remove the other person's name, so the vehicle could be registered. Santander agrees to remove the name and print the title AND send it to the dealership so they can register the vehicle properly. Well, let's say the note has been paid and not late, the title has not been printed or sent anywhere SINCE DECEMBER.

I was told that a third party company (Statewide) print the title. This is the first time this has ever been said, HARD TO BELIEVE WITH THE MANY CALLS THAT HAVE BEEN MADE from December, until this very month April the vehicle's title has not been printed. Very bad customer service, No one cares to provide the correct information and to assure you with proven evidence that what they told you is correct. It's all about collecting payment NO HELP they should get rid of their Customer service department because the customer is not serviced, if it is not to make a payment.

I have used this company before and received excellent service IN THE PAST, not anymore. The employees say their Employee ID number when they answer the phone, however when you call back and asked who did I speak with yesterday or do you know who accessed my file, they are unable to say, and so there is no recourse or notes of what was discussed during the call. Which I find to be unethical. Yet, when you call they ask all type of verifying questions to personal information, I may add.

When you are transferred to other departments, you are asked to repeat your story multiple times, as many times as you are transferred from one person to another. Just call and ask for a department other than customer service, and the person who answers the phone immediately appears to have no clue or knowledge of the department you are asking for. IT IS FRUSTRATING AND INFURIATING.

TO SPEAK WITH THE ENTIRE STAFF REPEATING YOUR STORY/ ISSUE AGAIN AND STILL YOU ARE RIGHT WHERE YOU STARTED, BECAUSE NO ONE KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE DOING.

HERE IS A SOLUTION, TO BE ABLE TO ROUTE THE CALL TO THE APPROPRIATE DEPARTMENT AND ATTEMPT TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM, THE PERSON ANSWERING THE PHONE MUST FIRST LISTEN TO UNDERSTAND, SO THE ADVICE OFFERED LINES UP WITH THE QUESTION / INFORMATION BEING SOUGHT AFTER. LISTENING TO SOLEY RESPOND IS NOT ACTIVE LISTENING AND WILL MOST LIKELY NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM, BUT CREATE ONE.

Pay off of my car loan

I was provided a quote for my car loan and I paid it off. I tried to call Santander Consumer USA to discuss next steps of my title as a result of the payoff and a representative never came to the line. My check is out there with no communication from them.

Call for something else and and suddenly the time frame changed.

Tried to talk to a supervisor and conveniently their phone didn't work so I couldn't hear them. Think very hard before using this company.

How do I send an email? Im trying to have a towing company get in contact with Santander.

But every time Santander tells me they haven’t recieved any notices or messages. I want to combine a message/email to have them contact each other easily while I'm also in the grouped email. The towing company is going to be taking over my loan yet it hasn't happened for a month now.

My credit score is going down even when I don't have my car anymore. I'm very upset.

You haven't a clue what you're talking about. First off, the words are "YOU" and "AND".

In the beginning of all loans, most of the money goes to INTEREST.

That's called amortization. Why not learn to write properly and learn the subject matter instead of looking like a fool!!!

No they have not reached out to me nor did I expect them to, this is how they roll and if you don't like it they will make it even worse on you until you can pay them in full. They have NO regards for helping like their website says at the top banner!

Original review Sep 22, 2023
Well, have had 3 loans with this company in my life, the last loan I have with them I have late fees on and would like to pay off the loan and asked forgiveness of those due to the fact that the car's engine blew and I haven't driven it nor have it since March 2022 but have not missed a payment and still have until February 2024 until would be paid off. I called and asked for leniency on late charges, yes I was late due to the times the car had to be repaired, it was definitely a LEMON but couldn't return!

I was insulted to be given a $100 credit on a $1675.97?

As I stated I will go without a car as I have done for over a year at this point and will never do business with this finance company again in my life. I feel as though with the high interest rate charged on this life of account that this company could have honored my request.

Very, very, very simple remedy. If you want a lower APR and don't want late fees, then pay your bills ON time.

You ended up with this sub prime deadbeat lender because the banks wouldn't touch you. Here you go again!

You don't pay them ON time either! Absolutely amazing how you SERIAL DEADBEATS will NEVER learn and blame everybody and everything for YOUR deadbeat ways!
